On behalf of the new chapter board, I would like to take a few moments to update our membership on recent chapter activities and welcome our new board members. We are excited to welcome Jon Layne (Solomon Colors), Mackenzi Coan (Coan Construction), and Stephanie Weldon (Largo Concrete) to our board. We look forward to the thoughtful, diverse, and insightful perspectives they will bring.
In January, we held our Annual Meeting and the Sam Hobbs service award celebration. The event was well attended, with more than 75 participants, and included dinner, installation of new chapter officers, and presentation of the Annual Sam Hobbs Award. This year, Nathan Forrest was honored as the 2025 recipient and was introduced by past recipient Don Khan. Nathan is a past president of the SoCal ACI chapter and has made countless contributions to the organization over the years. I also want to personally thank him for his leadership, guidance, and many engaging technical discussions over the years. Congratulations to Nathan on this well-deserved recognition.
As we look towards spring, there are many exciting activities coming up, including a Cemex batch plant tour on March 11th, our Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on April 2nd at Coyote Hills Golf Course, and Mini Golf on May 20th at Bullwinkle’s Upland. We also held our first committee volunteer meeting on Feb 17th, which had excellent attendance. The enthusiasm to give back and get involved in ACI is truly encouraging to see.
