Field Grade I Testing Technician

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the postponement of most ACI Certification exam sessions, disrupting the opportunity for many Technicians, Inspectors, Craftsmen, and Specialists to recertify. ACI has taken the position that the Project Owner's Representative (Engineer of Record, Specifier, etc.) is the proper entity to review a technician's credentials and determine if a waiver of active certification requirements is warranted/appropriate on a project-by-project basis. Therefore, project owner representatives may contact ACI Certification via email for information regarding individuals not appearing on this list to assist the project owner in deciding if they should apply any waiver. Please send inquiries to

NOTE: All reservations and payments are done online!

NOTE: Minimum personal protective equipment (PPE) is required!  Safety toed boots, long pants, safety glasses, sleeved shirt, are the minimum requirements.  Without the required minimum (PPE) you will not be admitted to the session and you will not receive a refund!

Certification Requirements:

ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who meet both of the following requirements:

  1. A passing grade on the ACI written examination; AND
  2. Successful completion of the ACI performance examination.

The one-hour written examination is closed-book and consists of 55 multiple-choice questions. There are between five and ten questions on each of the ASTM test methods and practices. To pass the written examination, BOTH of the following conditions must be met:

  1. At least 60% correct for each of the required test methods and practices; AND
  2. A minimum score of 70% overall.

The performance examination is also "closed book" and requires actual demonstration of six of the required test methods and practices plus a verbal description of Practice C172/C172M (sampling). The examinee is judged on his/her ability to correctly perform (or describe, where allowed) all of the required steps for each procedure.
