    ACI CERTIFICATION

    American Concrete Institute, Southern California Chapter, announces its schedule for certification of concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1. This program has been developed for certifying individuals who will then be competent to conduct field tests on fresh concrete. The program covers details of ASTM procedures and consists of a written and performance examination. The performance examination requires the candidate to demonstrate his/her ability to correctly perform and record the results of field tests on fresh concrete.

    Program Details

    Each examination course consists of 4 (four) sessions:

    1 Weekday
    5:30 – 9:30 p.m.
    Review

    2 Saturday
    7 a.m. – 1 p.m.
    Performance review

    3 Weekday
    5:30 – 9:30 p.m.
    Review

    4 Saturday
    7 a.m. – 1 p.m.

    Registration & Renewals

    To maintain certified status with ACI, you must renew every 5 (five) years. Because class size is limited, all classes are filled on a “first response” basis. To reserve a space, payment must accompany your completed application. A confirmation will be found at www.ACISoCal.org upon complete receipt of payment. You will be provided all materials including the workbook at the first class. Applicant is responsible for knowing his/her class dates, times and location. This test requires the physical ability to lift the required weights.

    NOTE: MINIMUM PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) IS REQUIRED! SAFETY TOED BOOTS, LONG PANTS, SAFETY GLASSES, SLEEVED SHIRT, ARE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS. WITHOUT THE REQUIRED MINIMUM (PPE) YOU WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO THE SESSION AND YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A REFUND!

    PROCESS:
    1. TO REGISTER: YOU CAN NOW AND MUST REGISTER ONLINE! WE NO LONGER EXCEPT CHECKS FOR AN CERTIFICATIONS! PAYMENTS MUST BE DONE AT THE TIME YOU REGISTER! 

    2. ONCE YOU REGISTER ONLINE: THE SESSION ALLOWS YOU TO PROCEED TO PAYMENT THIS MEANS YOU ARE IN THAT SESSION!  To Confirm your name in a session: please click here 2020 Event List, then click the box of events and find you your session then click VIEW to view the list of attendees.  Once you register your receipt will have the information on the sessions as well and if the system allows you to get to the payment process this means you are in that session!

    3. SOLD OUT SESSIONS: If a session is full will be able to sign up on a wait list.  However, there are no guarantees you will get in a full session on this list! We suggest signing up for an open session and adding to your comments you would like to be notified if someone cancels out of an earlier session.

    4. CANCELATIONS OR RESCHEDULES: No matter is you are canceling or rescheduling it is a charge of $100!

    Definition:
    A Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed concrete.

    Scope and Knowledge:
    The program requires a working knowledge of the following ASTM test methods and practices:

    • C1064/C1064M—Temperature of Freshly Mixed Hydraulic-Cement Concrete
    • C172/C172M—Sampling Freshly Mixed Concrete
    • C143/C143M—Slump of Hydraulic-Cement Concrete
    • C138/C138M—Density (Unit Weight), Yield, and Air Content (Gravimetric) of Concrete
    • C231/C231M—Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Pressure Method
    • C173/C173M—Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Volumetric Method
    • C31/C31M—Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field

    Job Task Analysis (JTA) for ACI Certification of Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I

    Certification Requirements:
    ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who meet both of the following requirements:

    1. A passing grade on the ACI written examination; AND
    2. Successful completion of the ACI performance examination.

    The one-hour written examination is closed-book and consists of 55 multiple-choice questions. There are between five and ten questions on each of the ASTM test methods and practices. To pass the written examination, BOTH of the following conditions must be met:

    1. At least 60% correct for each of the required test methods and practices; AND
    2. A minimum score of 70% overall.

    The performance examination is also "closed book" and requires actual demonstration of six of the required test methods and practices plus a verbal description of Practice C172/C172M (sampling). The examinee is judged on his/her ability to correctly perform (or describe, where allowed) all of the required steps for each procedure.

    Recertification is necessary every five years and requires successful completion of both the written and performance examinations.

    Individuals certified through this program are typically expected to be capable of reading, comprehending, and executing procedures requiring strenuous physical activity, and possess a level of fitness required to safely execute the procedures. Be sure to answer the questions in regards to ADA and by answering yes you are asserting that you are aware of the physical abilities and fitness level appropriate to participate in the program without accommodation for either permanent or temporary disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), or have contacted ACI and are in the process of applying for accommodation in accordance with ADA. You must answer those questions yes or no.
